LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Cal State Fullerton Titans women’s water polo team concluded their participation in the Triton Invitational with a challenging match against Claremont-Mudd Scripps, losing 15-8 in the 13th place game. This game marked the end of a tough weekend for the Titans, who wrapped up the tournament with a 1-3 record.

A Promising Start

The Titans displayed resilience throughout the match, highlighted by their diverse scoring efforts. Seven players contributed to the scoreboard, showcasing the team’s overall depth. Notable performances came from players like Elise Bliss, Destiny Hernandez, and Delaney Latham, among others, each netting multiple goals.

Game Recap

The match started competitively, with Claremont-Mudd Scripps securing an early 2-0 lead. However, Bliss responded just before the first quarter concluded, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

In the second quarter, Kenzie Searle tied the game early at 2-2. Unfortunately for the Titans, Claremont-Mudd Scripps responded with three consecutive goals, establishing a commanding 5-2 lead. Emme Doube-MacLeod found the net to keep the Titans within striking distance, as they went into halftime trailing 5-3.

The Athenas extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Titans 5-3. Despite goals from Sofia Moschetti and Latham reducing the gap to 10-6, the Titans were unable to close the distance effectively.

In the fourth quarter, Neida Torres opened the scoring, bringing the score to 10-7. However, the Athenas netted three more goals to secure their victory, effectively closing the game despite another late goal from Doube-MacLeod.
