Tragic Skiing Incident at Northstar California Resort

Skier Reported Missing Found Deceased

A tragic event unfolded at the Northstar California Resort in Truckee, California, when 21-year-old Colin Kang, an employee of the resort, was found dead on Thursday morning. Kang had been reported missing the previous night after failing to return from a skiing trip.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office received a missing person report around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities quickly located Kang’s vehicle in the resort’s parking lot and determined he had gone skiing earlier in the evening.

Search and Rescue Operations

Following the confirmation of Kang’s missing status, a search and rescue team was mobilized early Thursday. Unfortunately, Kang’s body was discovered around 9 a.m. on the advanced Sugar Pine Glade trail, a part of the resort that poses challenging skiing conditions.

The general manager of Northstar, Tara Schoedinger, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “We are heartbroken by this loss. Our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones, and with the team members who had the privilege of working alongside him.”

Recent Skiing Fatalities at Northstar

This incident marks a grim pattern at Northstar Resort, being the third fatality reported within the month. Just days earlier, a 53-year-old Bay Area man died after colliding with another skier on the slopes. Additionally, a 26-year-old man from Los Angeles was reported deceased following a skiing incident on February 6.

Community Response

The series of tragic events has raised concerns about skiing safety at the resort. Skiing, while an exhilarating sport, comes with inherent risks that may be exacerbated in challenging areas like Northstar.

As the community processes the loss, many are calling for increased awareness and safety measures within the skiing environment. It is a reminder for all winter sports enthusiasts to remain vigilant and prioritize safety while on the slopes.
