California Women’s Rowing Prepares for San Diego Crew Classic
The California Golden Bears women’s rowing team is set to make a splash at the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic this weekend. The regatta, known for showcasing top-tier talent, takes place at Crown Point Park in San Diego.
A Strong Presence in the Competition
The Bears will field a robust lineup, featuring three varsity eight boats and two coxless fours. Preliminary races kick off on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT, with finals slated for Sunday, beginning at 9:23 a.m. PT. Currently ranked No. 10 in the latest CRCA Coaches Poll, Cal is eager to demonstrate their skill on the water.
Cal’s elite groups will be competing in several highly competitive events:
- The Jessop-Whittier Cup, where the top boat will aim for victory.
- The Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy, featuring the second varsity eight.
- The Carley Copley Cup for the third varsity eight in the women’s open category.
- The Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup for the first varsity four.
- The Women’s Collegiate B4+ event for the second coxless four.
Facing Strong Rivals
The Bears will go head-to-head with renowned programs, including top-10 teams like Texas and Washington, alongside prominent West Coast rivals such as USC, UC San Diego, and UCLA.
Last year, California faced stiff competition, finishing in third place across all their races while Texas dominated, clinching victories in the Jessop-Whittier Cup, Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy, and the Carley Copley Cup, as well as the Karen Plumleigh Cup in the coxed four category.
