Eastern Michigan Golf Team Competes at The Goodwin Tournament

STANFORD, Calif. – The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team recently concluded the 57th annual Goodwin Tournament held from March 26-28 at the prestigious Stanford Golf Course. Against a challenging field, including 26 teams ranked in the top 100 nationally, the Eagles finished in 28th place with a total score of 41-over 881.

Tournament Overview

The Goodwin is a highly competitive collegiate tournament that features some of the finest golf programs in the country. This year, the Stanford Cardinal, ranked 23rd nationally, emerged victorious at 17-under 823. They were followed closely by UCLA (35th) at 13-under 827 and New Mexico (21st) capturing third place at 10-under 830.

Eastern Michigan’s Performance

The Eagles, who competed fiercely throughout the tournament, posted rounds of 291, 302, and 288 on the par-70, 6,742-yard course. Eastern Michigan’s leading golfer was Leo Mihaich, who expertly navigated the final round to finish tied for 78th place at 7-over 217.

Leo Mihaich’s Standout Performance

Leo Mihaich from Bell Ville, Argentina, displayed impressive skill, completing the last day with an even-par score that elevated him from 107th to 78th in the standings. His overall score of 217 matched his season-best performance, achieved previously at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational.

Other Eagles’ Results

  • Robby Turnbull finished tied for 107th at 10-over 220.
  • Charlie Box ended in a tie for 127th with a score of 14-over 224.
  • Tim Chan showed resilience, improving his score each round to finish tied for 134th at 15-over 225.
  • Rounding out the team, Joshua Hess placed tied for 149th at 21-over 231.

Here are the top teams from the 57th Goodwin Tournament:

  1. Stanford [#23] • 269-280-274=823 (-17)
  2. UCLA [#35] • 276-272-279=827 (-13)
  3. New Mexico [#21] • 271-279-280=830 (-10)
  4. BYU [#24] • 275-273-283=831 (-9)
  5. Long Beach State [#31] • 270-279-286=835 (-5)

Eastern Michigan secured 28th place in the overall standings with a score of 41-over 881.

The Eagles are set to return to competitive action from April 6-8 at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Florida. This tournament offers another opportunity for the team to showcase their skills against top-tier collegiate competitors.
