California Golden Bears Rowing Team Dominates Day One of the California Classic
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The No. 2 ranked California Golden Bears men’s rowing team showcased their prowess on Saturday morning by achieving a remarkable sweep in all 11 races during the opening day of the California Classic. The event took place at the scenic Redwood Shores, where the Bears faced off against five nationally ranked competitors, including No. 15 Wisconsin, No. 19 Temple, No. 21 Oregon State, No. 24 UC San Diego, and No. 25 Santa Clara.
Outstanding Performances Across the Board
The Golden Bears’ first varsity eight boat (V8+) had an exceptional day, posting the two fastest times overall. They achieved a time of 5:34.4 in their morning race against Wisconsin, followed closely by a time of 5:34.7 in the afternoon session against Temple.
Meanwhile, Cal’s second varsity eight (2V8+) recorded impressive finishes as well, crossing the line at 5:38.0 in their morning race and triumphing over Wisconsin’s 2V8+. In the afternoon, they extended their lead by defeating Oregon State’s V8+ by more than 20 seconds, finishing at 5:41.5.
The Bears’ fifth varsity eight (5V8+) claimed the largest victory margin of the day, posting a time of 5:50.4 against Santa Clara’s 3V8+, which finished at 6:14.1.
