California Softball Falls Short Against NC State in Game Two

RALEIGH – The California softball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday evening, ultimately falling to the NC State Wolfpack with a close score of 5-4 in game two of their series at Dail Softball Stadium.

Early Dominance by NC State

The Wolfpack made their mark early in the game, seizing a commanding 2-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a powerful two-run homer. They extended their advantage in the third inning, scoring again to bring the tally to 3-0.

Cal Responds with Offense

The Bears, determined to respond, found their breakthrough in the fourth inning. Emma Jackson stepped up with an impactful RBI single up the middle, cutting NC State’s lead to 3-1. However, NC State quickly retaliated, increasing their lead to 4-1 with an infield single in the same inning.

Late Rally Falls Short

NC State added an insurance run in the sixth, benefiting from a Cal error to make it 5-1. However, California refused to go down without a fight. In the top of the seventh inning, Anaya Togia hit a solo homer to deep center field, igniting a spark for the Bears.

With two outs, Maddie Rey delivered a clutch two-run double, narrowing the score to 5-4 and placing the tying run in scoring position. Despite their valiant effort, California could not secure the comeback, resulting in their third consecutive defeat.

Current Standings and Next Game

With this loss, California’s record stands at 13-29 overall, including a 3-14 mark within the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Bears and the Wolfpack will meet again to finalize the series on Sunday evening at Dail Softball Stadium.
