Anduril Industries Announces $1 Billion Investment in Long Beach, California

LONG BEACH, CA — Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced a significant investment from Anduril Industries, which will establish a vast 1.18 million-square-foot campus across Long Beach and Lakewood. This project, valued at $1 billion, aims to broaden Anduril’s presence in California as it pursues long-term growth prospects while maintaining its headquarters in Costa Mesa.

Expansion and Job Creation

The new facility is expected to create approximately 5,500 direct jobs, with many additional indirect jobs generated in construction, security, and support services. Set to open its doors in mid-2027, the campus will feature essential facilities, including:

  • Laboratory spaces for research and development
  • Prototype manufacturing areas
  • Dedicated zones for engineers and software developers

“Anduril’s world-class innovation and deep California roots are helping shape the next generation of America’s aerospace and defense industry. With this major investment, they are reinforcing California’s leadership in this critical sector, creating good-paying jobs and strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem.”
— Governor Gavin Newsom

Innovation in Aerospace and Defense

Anduril Industries is renowned for developing cutting-edge defense technologies, ranging from drones and missiles to robotic submarines and autonomous fighter jets. With a workforce of 7,000 employees across 35 locations, roughly half of which are in Southern California, Anduril enhances a robust network of aerospace and defense companies thriving in the region.

Southern California stands as one of the fastest-growing hubs for space technology and advanced manufacturing in the United States, supported by a highly skilled technical workforce and a rich history in U.S. defense and aviation.

California’s Aerospace and Defense Sector

California boasts a commanding lead in the aerospace and defense industry, housing around one-third of the nation’s space technology firms. The state employs more aerospace engineers and defense personnel than any other region in the country. Under Governor Newsom’s California Jobs First Blueprint, the aerospace and defense sector has been identified as a pivotal area for accelerated growth. This industry contributes approximately $35 billion to California’s gross domestic product (GDP) and is bolstered by extensive public-private investments and superior infrastructure.

The Economic Powerhouse of California

As a global economic powerhouse, California consistently drives innovation, leading in new business formation, venture capital investment, manufacturing, and agriculture. The state maintains a steadily growing population supported by record-high tourism spending and continues to expand across key sectors. California exemplifies how innovation and inclusion work in tandem to foster economic development.
