During the recruitment process, Siegel’s parents emphasized the importance of choosing a school that aligned with her interests, rather than focusing solely on the sport. Her initial visits to UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) were filled with apprehension. However, as she engaged with the coaching staff during recruitment camps, her nervousness faded. The positive interactions with former UCSB coaches made her feel welcomed and valued, reigniting her passion for the game.
At precisely 12:01 a.m. on September 1 of her junior year, Siegel received the coveted email offering her a spot on the UCSB softball team—a leap from uncertainty to a promising future.

As a catcher, Siegel plays a pivotal role in the game, overseeing every pitch and decision from behind the plate. She understands the high-stakes atmosphere and emphasizes the need to make the field feel manageable during tough moments. “When situations get tense, it’s crucial to keep a clear mind and simplify the game,” Siegel explains.
Entering her fifth and final season with the Gauchos, Siegel has emerged as a guiding figure for her teammates. “It’s important that everyone feels heard and respected; trust is essential when challenges arise,” she emphasizes. With an impressive fielding percentage of .964, her reliable presence has been invaluable for her team’s pitchers in critical moments. In 2023, Siegel earned an All-Big West Honorable Mention while maintaining a .270 batting average and contributing 24 RBIs, solidifying her status as a dynamic player both defensively and offensively.

Halfway through her junior year, Siegel’s career took an unexpected turn when she began experiencing severe hip pain. Medical evaluations revealed torn labrums in both hips, calling for surgery and a nine-month recovery process. Watching from the sidelines while her team celebrated their conference championship was a bitter pill to swallow. “It was heart-wrenching to go through that after anticipating playing alongside my friend and fellow catcher,” she recalls.
After her recovery, Siegel returned to the field but felt the lingering effects of her injuries. “I was frustrated with my performance and questioned whether the surgeries were worth it,” she admits. It took two seasons of hard work and resilience to return to her former self, but the road to recovery also brought valuable life lessons.
“I discovered the significance of supporting my teammates, regardless of my own challenges,” Siegel notes. Her experience taught her that every player has a role, and maintaining a positive attitude was necessary for both individual and team success.
