Navy Men’s Tennis Team Set for Spring Break Matches in Southern California

Navy Men’s Tennis Schedule

The Navy men’s tennis team is gearing up for an exciting week in Southern California, where they will compete in four matches during their spring break. The team, currently holding a 14-12 record, will kick off their trip with matches against UC Riverside and UC San Diego this Wednesday. They will then face UC Irvine and Air Force on Friday.

  • Match Schedule:
    • UC Riverside: Wednesday, 1 PM ET
    • UC San Diego: Wednesday, 6 PM ET
    • UC Irvine vs. Navy: Friday, 1 PM ET
    • Air Force vs. Navy: Friday, 5 PM ET

Live scoring for the match against UC San Diego will be available at NavySports.com.

Team Performance and Key Players

Having recently returned from a series of challenges, the Mids faced a mixed week as they posted a 1-3 record. They secured a victory against Georgetown with a dominant 4-0 win but faced defeats against Delaware, Brown, and Norfolk State.

Leading Players

Two standout players this spring are Aniketh Ayinala (9-3) and Jason Kim (9-4), who lead the team in singles victories. Following closely are J.J. Etterbeek (8-7), Tommy Kim (8-5), and Jake Young (8-4), each showcasing strong performances. In doubles, Jason Kim also leads with a 9-7 record, while several teammates have each achieved at least seven wins.

Opponent Insights

UC Riverside

The Highlanders currently sit at a 2-14 record, suffering a loss in their only Big West Conference match. Earlier this season, their victories came against Hope International and Ottawa Arizona, both NAIA teams. Historically, the two teams faced off once prior, where Navy claimed a nail-biting 4-3 victory in 2019.

UC San Diego

The Tritons, entering the match with a 7-8 overall record, have faced tough competition, including losses to ranked teams like Arizona and San Diego. Last spring, UC San Diego finished with a 7-14 overall record, but they did reach the semifinals of the Big West Tournament. Navy has met the Tritons multiple times, though UCSD secured a 6-1 win in 2023, breaking Navy’s earlier winning streak from the early ’90s.

UC Irvine

The Anteaters head into their match against VCU with a record of 3-4. Their wins this season include notable victories over Villanova and San Diego State, while all their losses have come from highly ranked teams. UC Irvine had a successful 2022-23 season, ending with an overall record of 18-6. Previously, Navy has lost both encounters against UCI, including a 6-1 defeat last season.

Air Force

The Falcons are currently holding a record of 4-5, which includes a significant win over No. 57 BYU. They also have a 4-2 victory against Army under their belts. In terms of history, Navy leads the overall series against Air Force with a 5-2 record, despite the Falcons winning the last two matches in 2023 and 2025.

Conclusion

The Navy men’s tennis team faces an exciting challenge ahead with four matches in California. As they strive to improve their season record, fans can follow their journey through live updates and scores available on NavySports.com. The upcoming matches promise to be a thrilling display of collegiate tennis as the Mids look to continue their strong performance in a highly competitive environment.
