Blake Sturgis Shines at West Coast Relays: A Record-Setting Performance
CLOVIS, Calif. – The excitement surrounding Idaho track and field continues to grow as senior athlete Blake Sturgis delivered yet another impressive performance at the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State. Following a phenomenal display in the outdoor season opener, where he earned the title of Big Sky Athlete of the Week, Sturgis demonstrated his remarkable talent once again.
Stellar Performance by Blake Sturgis
On Saturday, Sturgis unleashed a remarkable personal-best throw of 68.29 meters (224 feet) on his third attempt. This remarkable achievement not only marked a new personal record for the Spokane native but also ranks as the third longest throw in Idaho’s history. Prior to the weekend, Sturgis already held the leading mark in the Big Sky Conference, and his latest throw would have secured him the second position at last season’s conference meet. His previous personal best, recorded last April during the Cougar Classic, was an impressive 68.25 meters (223 feet, 11 inches).
Baylee Wrobble Continues Podium Success
The Vandal squad’s success continued with Baylee Wrobble, a sophomore who also made her mark at the West Coast Relays. She secured a podium finish for the second consecutive meet, capturing second place in the javelin throw with a distance of 44.28 meters (145 feet, 3 inches). This throw comes just shy of her 45.72-meter (150 feet) performance from the season opener at the Sam Adams Classic.
Upcoming Events
Looking ahead, the Idaho track and field team is set to split its roster next weekend. Some athletes will compete at the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, while others will head to the Stanford Invite in California. This opportunity will allow the Vandals to showcase their skills against a wider array of competition.
