UCSB Track and Field Team Competes in Three Major Meets This Weekend

GOLETA, Calif. (April 1) – The UC Santa Barbara Track and Field team is set to make a significant impact this weekend as they compete across three simultaneous meets in Southern and Northern California. The distance runners will participate in the Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival at San Francisco State, while other athletes head south for the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego. A select group of competitors will also showcase their skills at the prestigious Stanford Invitational, hosted at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Stanford Invitational: A Landmark Participation

This season marks a record number of participants from UCSB at the Stanford Invitational, which spans two days filled with intense competition. The event kicks off on Friday, featuring field events that begin at 10:00 a.m. with the women’s long jump, javelin, and high jump. The day’s track events commence shortly after at 10:37 a.m. with the prelims for the 100m hurdles. Other track events include the prelims for the 110m hurdles, 100m, and 400m, concluding with the 300m steeplechase at 5:43 p.m.

On Saturday, the spotlight will be on Kennedy Johnson, who will represent UCSB in the triple jump at 1:00 p.m. The day’s track events will resume with the 4x100m relays at 1:10 p.m., followed by the 800m and finals for the 100m dash, 100m hurdles, and 110m hurdles, wrapping up with the 4x400m relays at 4:48 p.m.

Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival: Distance Running at Its Best

At the Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival, the competition kicks off on Friday with the 5000m run at 8:20 a.m. Following this, athletes will race in the 3000m steeplechase and the 1500m. Women will race before men in each event, alternating heats in the 1500m and 5000m.

Saturday’s events start early at 8:30 a.m. with the 10,000m, followed by the 800m, one mile, two mile races, and a Distance Medley Relay. Both days are projected to conclude around 6:30 p.m.

Triton Invitational: Exciting Action in San Diego

In sunny San Diego, the Triton Invitational promises excitement starting at 9:00 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw, followed later by the men’s discus at 4:00 p.m. On the track, Gauchos will feature prominently in the 200m at 3:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the shot put event kicks off the day at 9:00 a.m., followed by pole vault at 10:00 a.m. The 110m hurdles heat will commence at 1:10 p.m., leading into the 100m dash and 400m hurdles.
