Oregon State Men’s Rowing Shines at California Invite

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The Oregon State men’s rowing team had an eventful weekend at the California Invite, culminating in a triumphant victory over UC San Diego on Sunday. This performance showcased the resilience and potential of the Beaver team as they prepare for future competitions.

Strong Weekend Overview

The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the Sunday races, where the Beaver Varsity 8 demonstrated their strength and determination. They clocked an impressive time of 5:56.5, outpacing UC San Diego’s crew, who finished with a time of 5:59.7. Similarly, the Oregon State 2V8 also claimed victory against the Tritons, finishing the race in 6:06.6, well ahead of UC San Diego’s 6:14.7.

Head coach Galen Bernick acknowledged the significance of this weekend’s competitions, stating, “Lots of learning happened over this weekend. It was great to go up against some strong competition. I believe it’s a stepping stone forward towards MPSF and IRA.”

Performance Against National Powers

Despite their victories on Sunday, the Beavers faced tough challenges on Saturday. The Oregon State Varsity 8 competed against esteemed programs like Stanford and California, finishing with times of 6:00.3 and 6:04.0, respectively. The 2V8 crew also faced defeats, finishing in 6:10.3 against Stanford and 6:12.9 against California.

The Oregon State 3V8 encountered similar challenges, ultimately falling to Stanford and California during Saturday’s races. They narrowly missed victory against Wisconsin on Sunday, clocking a time of 6:06.5.

Upcoming Competitions

The Oregon State rowing team looks ahead to another competitive weekend. They are set to face off against the University of Washington at Vancouver Lake, providing yet another opportunity to refine their skills and strategies as the season progresses.
