California Softball Team Falls Short Against NC State in a Thrilling 10-9 Clash

RALEIGH – The California softball team faced a hard-fought contest against NC State on Sunday evening, ultimately losing 10-9 at Dail Softball Stadium. This match showcased intense action, highlighting the resilience and skill of both teams.

Game Overview

The Bears kicked off the game with an early lead. Anaya Togia opened the scoring with an RBI single that put California ahead 1-0. However, the Wolfpack quickly retaliated, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 advantage.

California Responds

Not to be outdone, Cal delivered an impressive performance in the second inning, scoring four times to reclaim the lead at 5-4. Sophia Everett contributed significantly to this resurgence with a well-placed single up the middle, and later, both Maddie Rey and Togia added to the scoreboard with crucial RBI singles.

NC State Pulls Ahead

NC State responded with vigor in the bottom of the second inning, racking up five runs to extend their lead to 10-5. They continued to dominate, adding another run in the subsequent third inning. Despite these challenges, the Bears remained determined.

Late-Game Drama

In a bid to narrow the gap, D’auna Johnson and Rey each contributed a run in the sixth inning, bringing the Bears closer at 10-7. The climax came in the seventh inning when Mya McGowan blasted a two-run homer over the left-field wall, pulling California within one run. However, despite their valiant efforts, the Bears were unable to seal a comeback, and the match ended 10-9 in favor of NC State.
