Colorado State Track Athletes Shine at Dual Meets in California
Strong Performances at the Pacific Coast Invitational
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State University’s track and field teams split their efforts across two exciting meet locations in California, showcasing an array of personal bests and solidifying their status in the program’s history. The Pacific Coast Invitational held in Long Beach saw remarkable displays, particularly from the throwing events.
Men’s Shot Put Success
The men’s shot put squad stole the spotlight at the Pacific Coast Invitational. Kyle Bigley had a standout performance, breaking into the 60-foot club with a personal best throw of 18.45 meters (60 feet 6.5 inches). This impressive mark places him among the top five athletes in Colorado State history, earning him a commendable second-place finish for the day. Following closely was Leonardo Ramos, who clinched third place with a season-best throw of 18.28 meters (59 feet 11.75 inches).
Women’s Discus Highlights
The women’s discus throwers also shone brightly, with three athletes finishing in the top ten. Leading the pack was Klaire Kovatch, who achieved a remarkable throw of 58.27 meters (191 feet 2 inches). Makayla Long and Kajsa Borrman followed closely, finishing eighth and ninth with throws of 53.32 meters (174 feet 11 inches) and 53.19 meters (174 feet 6 inches), respectively.
Additional Notable Results
Adam Hellbom also made headlines in the men’s discus with a personal best throw of 55.07 meters (180 feet 8 inches), securing a spot in CSU’s record books. Meanwhile, the hammer throw events featured solid performances from the Swedes Borrman and Hellbom, both finishing fifth in their respective competitions with distances of 63.30 meters (207 feet 8 inches) and 65.54 meters (211 feet 9 inches).
Inspirational Efforts at the Bryan Clay Invitational
Simultaneously, the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa highlighted impressive results from the distance runners, particularly in the women’s steeplechase. Allison Pippert achieved a personal best of 10:26.64, now standing at 12th in CSU history. Close behind her was Amrie Lacefield with a time of 10:26.88, positioning her 13th in the record books.
Outstanding 10,000m Performances
Mari Konold capped off a fruitful night by clocking in at 34:41.49 in the women’s 10,000 meters, making her mark as the No. 12 time in CSU’s history. Joining her in the top 20 was Kenya Dennee, whose performance of 34:56.80 ranked her 17th. On the men’s side, Nic Spencer secured his spot in the history books with a personal record of 9:09.69 in the steeplechase.
