Aggies Shine at Track Meets Across California

LONG BEACH, AZUSA, AND LA VERNE, CALIF. – The Aggies hit the track this past weekend in California following their Borderland trip, showcasing their talent across four major meets: the Pacific Coast Invitational and Beach Invitational in Long Beach, the Leopard Invitational in La Verne, and the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa. The results were impressive, with the team achieving 21 top-10 finishes, 21 personal bests, and nine record book entries.

Highlights from the Competitions

Thursday’s Performances
Trista Cordova started the weekend strong by making her debut in the 10,000m run, clocking in an impressive 37:42.07 seconds at the Bryan Clay Invite. Meanwhile, at the Leopard Invitational, Nia Allison excelled in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing second with a remarkable time of 10:35.99, marking the second-fastest time in the school’s history. Following her, Jordan Torres set a personal best with a time of 10:57.54, placing sixth in the program’s record books.

On the first day of events, Kamryn Cadle represented in the Hammer Throw, registering a distance of 51.27 meters at the Pacific Coast Invite. In the same meet, Marlee Cavitt secured third place in the long jump with an all-conditions best of 11.46 seconds.

Key Performances in Long Beach
Marlee Cavitt continued to impress, achieving a personal best of 23.65 seconds in the 200m, ranking as the sixth-fastest time in NM State’s history. In the high jump, Aileen Alvarado made her mark by clearing 1.68m (5’6″), securing fifth place.

The 4×100 relay team, consisting of Sara McKee, Marlee Cavitt, Alyssa Crump, and Jaylah McDonnell, recorded a season-best time of 45.80 seconds.

Friday’s Highlights
At the Leopard Invite, Murrie Dodge finished the 5000m in 18:14.83, achieving a new personal best, while Kamryn Cadle and Julia Nystrand made waves at the Beach Invite, both setting new bests in the Hammer Throw with distances of 53.02m and 50.18m respectively.

In the Bryan Clay Invite’s 100m preliminaries, Marlee Cavitt showcased her speed with a time of 11.58 seconds, while Alyssa Crump, Jaylah McDonnell, and Aja Johnson all followed closely behind.

Saturday’s Strong Finish
In the shot put, Kamryn Cadle reached a distance of 15.41m (50’6.75″), moving into fourth place all-time for the program. Competing in the discus, she also registered a personal best.

Nia Allison shone in the 1500m with a time of 4:20.02, the second-fastest in NM State history. Eloïse Stuart and Adéla Steinsová contributed with impressive times of 4:30.99 and 4:31.84 respectively.

Men’s Events Standouts

On the men’s side, Nick Valle led the NM State men at the Leopard Invite, achieving a personal best with a time of 14:56.84. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Thomas Croshaw set a school record in the 5000m with a time of 13:52.49, while Leo Valenzuela also marked a personal best.

Closing out the weekend’s events, Thomas Croshaw excelled in the 1500m with a top time of 3:53.63, while teammate Orion Chavez clocked in at 4:01.24.

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead, the Aggies will return to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Tailwind Twilight on April 24. This one-day meet promises further opportunities for the team to showcase their prowess in track and field.
