UNLV Track & Field Shines at Bryan Clay and Beach Invitationals
The UNLV track and field team recently showcased their talents at two prestigious events on the West Coast: the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California. Both meets provided a platform for athletes to achieve personal bests and earn top finishes in highly competitive fields.
Personal Bests Highlight Bryan Clay Invitational
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Rebels delivered impressive performances, particularly from standout athlete Taryn Bailey. Competing in the 800 meters, Bailey achieved a personal best of 2:09.54. She continued her strong showing the following day, winning her heat in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.18.
Teammate Kenley Gowdy also excelled, clocking a personal record of 2:14.65 in the Open B section of the 800 meters and returning to post another significant time of 4:44.10 in the 1500 meters. Additionally, Claire Rands added to the team’s momentum with a personal best of 4:42.33 in the 1500-meter Open B race.
Strong Showings at Beach Invitational
Simultaneously, at the Beach Invitational, UNLV sprinters and field athletes exhibited their skills against intense competition. Jaci Wright led the track athletes by finishing fourth in the 100 meters with an outstanding time of 12.11 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, achieving a personal best of 13.43 seconds.
The Rebels’ 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of Mikah Scott, Lauren Brown, AnnaKay Maitland, and Aly Winston, secured a fifth-place finish in the invitational section, crossing the finish line in 45.31 seconds. Scott also made a mark by finishing fifth in the 100 meters with a personal best of 11.67 seconds.
In field events, Kaitlynn Webbe achieved eighth place in the 400 meters with a time of 54.69 seconds. Meanwhile, Kayli Middleton delivered a notable performance in the triple jump, earning a fourth-place mark of 12.06 meters (39 feet, 6.75 inches).
Upcoming Competitions
The UNLV Rebels will next head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to participate in the Penn Relays, scheduled for April 24-25.
