NMU Track & Field Team Shines at Bryan Clay and Long Beach Invitationals
California – The Northern Michigan University (NMU) Track & Field team showcased impressive talent on their final day on the West Coast, competing against a diverse field at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Long Beach Invitational.
Record-Breaking Performances
The Wildcats delivered standout results during the weekend, especially highlighted by Danielle Lund, who set a new school record in shot put with a remarkable throw of 13.69 meters on Thursday. Additionally, Lamar Gordon came close to breaking a school record in the 1500m event on Saturday, finishing with a time of 4:30.74.
Bryan Clay Invitational – Azusa, California
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Lamar Gordon competed fiercely in the 1500m, ranking 16th out of 188 runners, just 0.07 seconds shy of the school record. Ashley Choponis and Ella DeBruyn also ran commendably, finishing 99th and 101st respectively.
In the 200m dash, Baux Truckey claimed the 42nd position out of 85 participants, recording a time of 24.845 seconds.
The shot put event saw Danielle Lund excel with a 7th place finish, achieving a distance of 13.00m. She also marked 41.74m in the discus, securing the 16th position.
In the javelin throw, Teiolla Harvey landed in 9th place, throwing a distance of 37.39m.
Three Wildcats competed in the 5000m across different heats on Friday. Sophia Potter finished strong at 17:19.08, followed by Madi Szymanski at 17:31.53, and Dani VanLente at 18:18.53.
Additionally, Beverly Harper and Lamar Gordon participated in the 800m, finishing 57th and 49th with times of 2:11.81 and 2:14.41 respectively. Alayna Vandegriff led NMU’s field athletes in the triple jump, securing 21st place with a jump of 11.31m.
On Thursday, both Potter and Szymanski showcased their endurance in the 10,000m race, with Potter finishing 6th overall in her heat at 36:12.57 and Szymanski clocking in at 37:31.57.
Long Beach Invitational – Long Beach, California
The only NMU participant at the Long Beach Invitational, Beverly Harper, finished 12th in the 800m with a time of 2:21.64.
Looking Ahead
The Wildcats are set to return to the Midwest next weekend for the St. Norbert Invite in De Pere, Wisconsin, where they hope to build on their recent successes and continue breaking records.
