Santa Ana Winds to Bring Warm Weather and Gusty Conditions to Southern California

Southern California is gearing up for a weather shift as the Santa Ana winds gain momentum. Beginning Wednesday, residents can expect warm temperatures alongside strong gusts, particularly in valley regions.

Wind Advisories Issued Across Multiple Areas

The National Weather Service (NWS) has announced several wind advisories, effective until 2 p.m. Wednesday. These advisories indicate that areas such as the San Gabriel Mountains and the Golden State (5) and Antelope Valley (14) freeway corridors will experience winds ranging from 25 to 35 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 mph.

In addition, another advisory is active for the Santa Clarita Valley, western San Fernando Valley, and the western Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, expecting winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. Similarly, Calabasas and Agoura Hills anticipate winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts hitting 35 mph until the advisory expires.

The Malibu coast and eastern Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area will also be under advisories, anticipating winds between 15 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 45 mph.

Rising Temperatures Expected

As the winds intensify, temperatures are expected to soar. Coastal and valley areas may easily reach the 80s, with some locations experiencing highs in the mid to upper-80s, which are forecasted to be 15-22 degrees above normal and close to record levels, according to the NWS.

Thursday will see a continuation of warm weather, though a slight decrease in temperature is anticipated due to weakening offshore gradients. Areas can expect temperatures to be 2-4 degrees cooler on this day.

Looking ahead to Friday, temperatures will likely dip another 3 to 6 degrees, but remains slightly above seasonal averages.

Weekend Weather Outlook

As we head into the weekend, a slight warming trend could occur, yet most areas are expected to level off in the 70s according to the NWS projections.

A cooler pattern is anticipated early next week, with indications of potential rainfall by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Conclusion

Southern Californians should prepare for the Santa Ana winds and warm temperatures over the next few days. With advisories in place and forecasts predicting notable rises in temperature, it’s an essential time to stay informed and adjust plans accordingly.
