Northern California Weather Forecast: Dense Fog Advisory in Effect

Overview

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for the Valley region of Northern California, set to last through noon on Sunday. This weather condition is being caused by widespread fog that has settled in across the area. Residents should be cautious while driving, as visibility is severely impaired.

Sunday Morning Conditions

On this foggy Sunday, temperatures are currently around 43°F in Sacramento, with a relative humidity of 100%, indicating fully saturated air. Visibility in many areas, particularly near Sacramento International Airport, is reduced to a quarter mile or less. Drivers are urged to use low beam headlights and exercise caution during this time.

Areas Affected

Cities experiencing the densest fog include:

  • Marysville
  • Lincoln
  • Davis
  • Stockton
  • Modesto

In contrast, conditions in the Sierra foothills show improved clarity, with clear skies being reported.

High Pressure and Weekly Forecast

Current high pressure systems are expected to continue influencing the weather throughout the week, leading to stagnant air and recurring morning fog. However, afternoons should bring clearer skies and temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Health Considerations

While enjoying outdoor activities, it’s essential to remember that air quality in the Valley remains at “unhealthy” levels for sensitive groups, such as individuals with COPD, asthma, the elderly, and young children. Even healthy adults are advised to limit strenuous activities outdoors, opting for indoor exercises instead.

Looking Ahead

As we approach the end of the week, a low-pressure system may move into the region, potentially bringing rain. This is a welcomed prospect considering the prolonged dry conditions that have dominated the forecast.

Seven-Day Outlook

  • Today: Dense fog in the morning, clearing in the afternoon.
  • Monday: Morning fog with expected afternoon sunshine.
  • Midweek: Continued foggy mornings but sunny afternoons.
  • Thursday: Similar conditions with potential changes on the horizon.
