(GOLETA, Ca.) – In a significant move towards improved working conditions, 30 bus operators at Zum Transportation in California have chosen to join Teamsters Local 186. This collective decision marks a major step in their campaign for better working conditions and a fairer voice at work.

“These workers have taken a bold step to enhance their livelihoods, and we are thrilled to welcome them,” said Abel Garcia, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 186. “Now begins the important task of negotiating a fair and timely first contract to secure better wages, comprehensive benefits, and improved working conditions for these dedicated professionals. Special thanks go to the Teamsters organizers whose efforts led to this victory.”

The Teamsters Union has a national presence in organizing workers within the passenger transportation sector, continually striving to elevate standards and protect the rights of its members across the country.

“Joining the Teamsters has made me feel empowered,” said Sandra Meshinko, a bus driver and new member of Local 186. “Together, we have secured a platform to address important issues like wages, healthcare, and overall working conditions.”
