Flood Watch Issued for Russian River in Hopland, California

Anticipated Flooding on Highway 175

In Hopland, California, drivers are advised to exercise caution as potential flooding impacts the area near the Russian River bridge on Highway 175. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch effective from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening, predicting that the river could crest at 15.1 feet, just above the flood stage of 15.0 feet.

River Status and Weather Forecast

As of Monday afternoon, the river was recorded at 3.5 feet but is expected to rise steadily throughout the day as moderate to heavy rainfall continues. This situation poses a significant risk to southeastern Mendocino County as rainfall runoff contributes to the increasing water levels in the river basin.

Broader Flood Warnings

Additionally, a more extensive Flood Watch encompasses regions including Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, Lake, and much of Mendocino counties, beginning late Monday night around 10 p.m. Coastal areas may experience excessive rainfall, heightening the risk of landslides and flooding along rural roadways, particularly in the winding regions of Mendocino and Lake counties.

Community Preparedness and Safety Measures

Residents living close to the Russian River should remain vigilant as conditions may change rapidly on Tuesday afternoon. Here are some essential safety precautions:

  • Avoid flooded roadways and areas prone to flooding.
  • Report instances of high water to local authorities.
  • Stay updated on conditions as further warnings may be issued by 11:15 p.m. Monday based on new river data.

For more information on emergency preparedness, visit Ready.gov.

Conclusion

Residents and travelers in the area should remain informed and prepared as heavy rains threaten to elevate the river levels, potentially leading to severe flooding. Continued monitoring by the National Weather Service will provide updates, helping ensure community safety.
