California Small Business Development Center Network Boosts Small Business Growth in 2025

California’s small business sector experienced remarkable support in 2025, with the California Small Business Development Center (CA SBDC) Network playing a pivotal role. This expansive network encompasses over 66 service centers and five regional hubs, assisting more than 51,000 small businesses through expert advising, training, and capital access. This initiative continues to foster significant advancements in business financing, job creation, and overall economic growth in the state.

Unprecedented Support and Tremendous Impacts

The year 2025 not only marked unprecedented support for small businesses but also a period that required quick responses and sustainable strategies. Through its statewide infrastructure, the CA SBDC Network effectively facilitated diverse business services, empowering entrepreneurs to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities.

2025 in Numbers

The CA SBDC Network reported substantial achievements, including:

  • $1.1 billion in capital accessed through 3,843 financing deals.
  • 19,752 jobs created, contributing to employment opportunities.
  • $1.09 billion increase in client sales.
  • $180.8 million in government contracts secured by 258 businesses.
  • 1,618 new businesses opened, showcasing innovation and growth.
  • 3,477 training events, benefiting 15,839 clients.
  • 157,003 consulting hours provided to 46,717 entrepreneurs.

Making a Difference

“California is home to 4.2 million small businesses,” noted Los Angeles SBDC Regional Director Pat Nye. “Our advisors are frontline problem-solvers helping entrepreneurs navigate economic shocks and natural disasters. Programs like AB 685 are vital for wildfire-impacted communities, and the SBDC Network is proud to lead recovery efforts.”

Capital Infusion Program (CIP) Benefitting Entrepreneurs

A key to these achievements was the Capital Infusion Program (CIP). In 2025 alone, this program helped clients access over $1.1 billion in financing by focusing on capital readiness and strengthening partnerships with lenders throughout the state. Notably, for every public dollar invested, small businesses were able to leverage an average of $368 in private capital, signifying strong returns even in volatile economic climates.

Future Focus: Innovation and Accessibility

As California looks ahead into 2026, the CA SBDC Network’s emphasis will be on fostering innovation, ensuring accessibility, and enhancing resilience among small businesses. Regional Director Kristin Johnson emphasized, “We are expanding AI-powered marketing tools, addressing critical funding gaps for startups, and advocating policies to ensure that small businesses emerge stronger.”
