California Softball Triumphs Over Seattle University at Judi Garman Classic

FULLERTON – In a thrilling contest at the Judi Garman Classic, the California softball team secured a narrow 4-3 victory against Seattle University. This match showcased not only the skills of the Bears but also their resilience in overcoming challenges during the game.

Game Highlights

The scoring began for California in the second inning, where Anaya Togia delivered a powerful RBI double to deep left field, marking the first run of the game. Shortly after, Mya McGowan was brought home on a popout in foul territory, extending the Bears’ lead to a comfortable 2-0 after two innings.

However, the advantage was short-lived as Seattle bounced back in the fourth inning, amassing three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Displaying remarkable grit, California responded promptly, with Togia once again stepping up to the plate. She launched a two-run homer over the left field wall, allowing the Bears to reclaim the lead at 4-3, a score that would hold until the final whistle.

Taylor Peacock (1-1) claimed her first win of the season, delivering an impressive performance on the mound. She allowed just one earned run on five hits over her four innings of play. Additionally, Layna Gerhard contributed significantly by recording the final nine outs and earning her first save of the season. Gerhard’s control was evident as she conceded no runs, allowing only two hits and striking out one batter over three innings.
