Indian Association of Sacramento Hosts Successful “Meet and Greet” Event

Sacramento, CA – January 25, 2026: The Indian Association of Sacramento (IAS) recently organized a vibrant “Meet and Greet” event at the historical Folsom Historic District. The gathering saw participation from over 100 Indian Americans, alongside various organizations supporting IAS, fostering a sense of community and cultural celebration.

Distinguished Guests and Community Engagement

The event featured renowned guests including Mr. Jaswant Singh, Consul at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, Mayor Siri Pulipati of Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Jaya Badiga, Mayor Justin Raithel of Folsom, and several other notable figures. Their presence underscored the event’s significance in uniting the Indian American community.

The program commenced with the American national anthem performed by Nithika Rangan, followed by a stirring rendition of India’s national anthem, “Jana Gana Mana.” These performances reflected pride in Indian heritage and tradition, prompting the audience to chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” making the atmosphere electric.

Highlights from the Gathering

Consul Jaswant Singh expressed his gratitude towards IAS for organizing a successful consular camp earlier that day, which served nearly 350 inquiries, including over 200 applications for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) and visa services. This outreach emphasizes IAS’s commitment to serving the local Indian American community.

The event also featured delightful cultural performances, showcasing a range of dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Folk dance, and Bollywood dance. These performances highlighted the rich diversity and artistic talent within the Sacramento Indian American community.

Mayor Pulipati praised the strong turnout and unity among IAS and supporting organizations. YK Chalamcherla encouraged community members to engage in mainstream American civic events, promoting cultural exchanges. Judge Badiga praised IAS for fostering community connections and expressed her delight in attending the event.

Looking Ahead: IAS Initiatives and Community Unity

IAS President JaganMohan Reddy Yachavarapu expressed appreciation for the participation and support from various organizations. He extended an invitation to the community for the upcoming IAS India Day celebrations scheduled for mid-August. IAS, founded in 2006, continues to be a pivotal organization in celebrating Indian culture and history in the region.

The event also served as a platform for IAS Executive Officers, including Vice President John Britto, Secretary Magesh Babu, Treasurer Amitabh Shaikh, and Joint Secretary Jay Shrivastava, to thank attendees for their engagement and highlight the ongoing initiatives of IAS.

JaganMohan acknowledged the efforts of individuals such as Siva Prasath and Vijay Jonnalagadda, who played vital roles in arranging food and logistics. The presentation on IAS’s fundraising initiatives showcased its remarkable achievements, having raised over $290,000 since its inception.

Strengthening Community Bonds

The “Meet and Greet” allowed member organizations to share upcoming events, fostering connections and reinforcing the collaborative spirit among Sacramento’s Indian American associations. Attendees expressed their appreciation for an event that not only celebrated cultural pride but also strengthened community ties and highlighted leadership within the Indian American network.
