Celebrate National Donate Life Month in Southern California
LOS ANGELES, April 2, 2026 — This April, OneLegacy, a nonprofit organ procurement organization serving seven counties in Southern California, is taking part in National Donate Life Month. This initiative features a series of engaging events that aim to inspire individuals to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors.
Understanding the Need for Organ Donation
Currently, over 100,000 people in the United States are patiently waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, with more than 20,000 of them in California alone. Behind each statistic is a person—parents, children, and friends—hoping for a second chance at life. Alarmingly, fewer than 1% of deaths occur in circumstances that meet organ donation criteria. A single organ donor can potentially save up to eight lives and improve the quality of life for as many as 75 others through cornea and tissue donation.
National Donate Life Month Activities
National Donate Life Month serves to honor the generosity of donors and their families, while also emphasizing the critical need for more registered donors. OneLegacy is set to host numerous outreach, education, and awareness activities throughout April, which include:
OneLegacy Donate Life Run/Walk
On Saturday, April 25, OneLegacy will host its 24th annual Donate Life Run/Walk at Azusa Pacific University. This event expects over 3,000 attendees who will join donor families, recipients, and supporters to celebrate the gift of life. Tower Buzzers MiLB Baseball Game
On April 16 at 6:35 p.m., OneLegacy will partner with the Ontario Tower Buzzers, a Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, for a Community Spotlight Game at ONT Field. Attendees can purchase tickets here, with 50% of proceeds benefiting OneLegacy’s mission. The evening will feature special giveaways and a ceremonial first pitch.
Flags Across America
In collaboration with over 200 hospitals, transplant centers, and community partners, OneLegacy will participate in the Flags Across America initiative, raising the Donate Life flag throughout April. This campaign, initiated in 2009, honors donors while raising awareness about the vital need for organ donation, with over 25 flag-raising ceremonies organized across its service area.
Blue and Green Spirit Week (April 4–11)
Throughout the Blue and Green Spirit Week, OneLegacy encourages community members to wear these colors to show support for organ donation. On April 11, local events will be hosted by hospitals and transplant centers, while city halls and landmarks across Southern California will be illuminated in blue and green throughout the month.
DMV Partnership for Awareness
For more than two decades, OneLegacy has allied with local DMV offices to provide valuable education about organ donation. In 2026, this partnership will focus on outreach efforts in communities with the lowest donor registration rates.
LAFF4LIFE Comedy Events for Registered Donors
This April, registered organ donors are eligible to receive complimentary tickets to comedy shows at IMPROV and Levity Live locations nationwide. Established by double-organ recipient and comedian Jamie Alcroft, the LAFF4LIFE initiative leverages entertainment to raise awareness. City Proclamations
OneLegacy Ambassadors will collaborate with local leaders to secure Donate Life Month proclamations across Southern California. Over 100 ambassadors will share personal stories and raise awareness in their communities.
