Community Mourns Keith “Pooter” Porter After New Year’s Eve Tragedy

Community members in Northridge are coming together to honor the life of Keith “Pooter” Porter, who was tragically shot and killed by an off-duty U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on New Year’s Eve. A community vigil will be held this Sunday at the Village Pointe apartment complex, located at 17171 Roscoe Blvd., where the incident occurred. According to a Black Lives Matter Los Angeles organizer, “This vigil is about remembering Keith as a human being, not a headline or a hashtag, and standing with his family as they demand truth and accountability.” The statement underscores the community’s desire for transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding Porter’s death.

An Instagram user who reportedly worked with Porter at Home Depot described him as “one of the most popular people in this store,” adding, “This is beyond heartbreaking.”

The tragic shooting, which occurred during the final moments of 2022, is currently under investigation by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, known for handling all shootings involving officers from outside law enforcement agencies. Details surrounding the incident remain murky. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated that the ICE agent responded to an “active shooter situation” at the apartment complex.
