National Wear Red Day: Raising Awareness for Women’s Heart Health

Understanding Cardiovascular Disease in Women

Los Angeles, Feb. 2, 2026 — Cardiovascular disease (CVD) stands as the leading cause of death among women in the United States. This alarming statistic has prompted a nationwide effort to heighten awareness, culminating in National Wear Red Day®, held on Friday, February 6. During this event, various landmarks across the country will illuminate in red, symbolizing the urgent need to address women’s heart health.

Landmarks Going Red

This year’s celebration will see numerous iconic landmarks participate by lighting up red or displaying messages focused on heart health. Among them are:

  • Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC)
  • Angel Stadium Big A
  • Buena Park City Hall
  • Discovery Cube, Santa Ana
  • Keck Medicine of USC
  • Los Angeles Union Station
  • Pacific Park’s Pacific Wheel, Santa Monica
  • Palm Springs Tramway
  • Rose Bowl, Pasadena
  • SoFi Stadium, Inglewood
  • The Clock Tower, Santa Monica
  • Third Street Promenade, Downtown Santa Monica
  • Toyota Arena, Ontario
  • UCI Medical Center

This collective action serves to remind everyone that nearly 45% of women over age 20 are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.

Join the Movement: Go Red for Women®

The American Heart Association invites individuals to participate in the Go Red for Women® campaign, a movement aimed at improving health and well-being for women. On National Wear Red Day, advocates wear red to show solidarity and raise awareness. Community members can elevate the conversation online by sharing their involvement with hashtags like #WearRedDay and #GoRedforWomen.

Key Actions for Heart Health

To combat the prevalence of heart disease, the Go Red for Women movement encourages women to take proactive steps towards better health:

  • Know Your Numbers: Keep track of your blood pressure, blood glucose, total cholesterol, and body mass index. Understanding these figures can greatly reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

  • Join Research Goes Red: Support initiatives that ensure women are adequately represented in cardiovascular research. Historically, women have been underrepresented in studies related to heart health.

  • Learn Hands-Only CPR: Equip yourself with the lifesaving knowledge of CPR, especially important as women tend to receive bystander CPR less frequently than men.

Resources for Every Stage of Life

For more insights and resources on women’s heart health, visit GoRedforWomen.org. The website provides information to support women at various life stages and promotes activities on National Wear Red Day through WearRedDay.org.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Go Red for Women initiative is a crucial movement to enhance awareness about heart health, especially for women. Join the effort to fight cardiovascular disease by participating in National Wear Red Day and advocating for women’s heart health.
